About Amanda

Amanda Berkson is an award-winning NYC-based director, with a focus on new musicals, who leads with play, curiosity and collaboration. She strives to create a rehearsal room that prioritizes comfort and confidence; creating space for discovery. She believes that theatre works best when everyone has a voice and the freedom to try different things and take creative risks. 

With a background in music and composition, Amanda approaches shows like a piece of music: layered, structured and full of potential for reinterpretation. She loves taking big or challenging ideas and finding simple, striking ways to bring them to life on stage. She sees constraints not as obstacles, but as creative invitations.

At the center of her work is a love for the magical moments that only theatre can offer. She believes in theatre’s ability to reveal vulnerability, invite wonder, and walk the balance between what is and isn’t real. Amanda directs with empathy, curiosity and care, always asking: How can we tell this story better?

Amanda was recently recognized as “Best Director of a Musical” at the SheNYC Arts Summer Theater Festival for her work on the new musical “Wilderness!”

She is also the co-founder of Berkson Productions, a theatre and music production company focusing on featuring work for and by the new generation of artists. Beyond theater, Amanda is a creative music producer for indie artists!
